The 2017 Audi A4 Allroad Wagon and the 2017 Acura RDX SUV are both vehicles considered daily drivers. Both of them are designed to not only be practical, but also luxurious as well. However, the 2017 Audi Allroad has several features that make it a more capable vehicle compared to the Acura, particularly for those who want the best of practicality and luxuriousness.

Design & Style

The 2017 Audi Allroad is a typical station wagon, and bristles with technology, excellent performance and all-weather capability. The Allroad features a large grille with chrome vertical slats, which gives it more of a presence compared to other Audis. The addition of flared wheel arches and plastic cladding gives the vehicle an overall beefier stance, but isn't too flashy.

The Acura RDX, on the other hand, is generally an attractive vehicle. However, most people see it as a conformist; it has no daring or brash design features that would give it a unique personality. This makes it just another car when one notices it on the road

.In terms of the interior, the Audi Allroad has a well laid-out dashboard with a 12-inch adjustable instrument cluster. The middle of the dashboard also has a 7-inch infotainment screen as well. Spacious leather seating and the panoramic roof make it a pleasing place to be in. The Acura, on the other hand, has an interior that is not boring, but certainly not exciting. It also focuses a bit too much on brightwork, giving it a slight tinge of drabness.

Technology & Safety

Increasingly tighter safety regulations have ensured that the two cars are more or less matched in terms of safety features. Standard features on both include ABS systems, child seat anchors, side curtain airbags, stability control and traction control.

The Audi comes out on top when it comes to the addition of some safety and technological features which come as standard on the Audi, but which are either absent or are optional extras on the Acura. These include destination download, satellite navigation, roadside assistance, premium leather upholstery and stolen vehicle tracking. This puts the Audi far ahead of the Acura.

The base Acura ships with a 3.5 liter V6 engine producing 279 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. This is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Audi, at least on paper, seems underpowered with a 2.0 liter inline 4 engine producing 252 horsepower, 27 less than the Acura. However, the Audi has an all-wheel drive system rather than the Acura's front wheel drive, making it handle better. The Audi also has better fuel consumption at 23/28 mpg versus the Acura's 20/28mpg. The Audi's 7-speed automatic transmission makes for smoother power delivery as well. All these features make it a serious competitor when put against the Acura.

The Bottom Line

When it comes down to it, the Audi Allroad has a lot more to offer compared to the Acura. The use of premium grade materials in its design as well as the fact that it's very practical means that you can easily use it as your daily runabout, and still feel like you're driving a truly special car, because it is.
