2019 Audi Q3 vs. 2019 Hyundai Tucson

The 2019 Audi Q3 is much improved to maintain its impressive luxury credentials. The Q3 has firmly established itself in the booming luxury subcompact market. This is not surprising since the Q3 technically pioneered its class. The full redesign for the 2019 model is aimed towards keeping up against the growing competition.

One of the interesting vehicles to match against the Q3 is the 2019 Hyundai Tucson. It is one of the most stylish and feature-packed among Hyundai’s vehicles. The Tucson gets refined every model year and the 2019 version is no exception. Let us check if the host of changes can make it better against the Q3 with this comparison.

Design & Style

The Q3 is a smaller yet daring crossover that borrows certain style characteristics from the bigger Q8. Fine lines, creases, and curves make the Q3 an eye candy, a bit surprising since stubby cars aren’t usually sexy. The cabin looks just as glam with the tech-savvy interior and handsome trim.

Hyundai took some baby steps in refreshing the Tucson’s styling themes. There are new headlights and a new grille, but the rest of the tweaks are not too obvious. Although the front end has been reshaped to revamp its looks, the cabin looks uninspired with the hard plastic trim.

Technology & Safety

The Q3’s infotainment is well-sorted with just the right amount of modern feel. The touch screen control display rapidly responds to touch and offers high resolution views, especially for the back-up and bird’s eye view camera.

Although it has improved, the Tucson’s infotainment is not going to win against the Q3’s. It has a simple interface but the graphics look significantly dated. The audio and navigation is straightforward but the display is small. It could also be better if more USB ports were added so that passengers will not fight over the lone port at the rear.

Performance

Under the hood of the Q3 is a 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque engine. The steering effort is light and the Q3 can change directions gracefully with a minimal body roll. The brakes are also impressive with a firm and progressive pedal that is easy to modulate.

The Tucson certainly does not impress with its 164-hp engine. The Sport and Limited editions are slightly better at 181 hp. The Tucson has adequate acceleration despite an inferior engine and it also offers competent handling.

The Bottom Line

It is easy to love the 2019 Audi Q3 over the 2019 Hyundai Tucson. Its stubby yet glamorous exterior is adorable to look at and the cabin is just as beautiful. It also helps that it is packed with just the right amount of modern technology to keep it current. The Tucson looks fine but it lacks sophistication especially with the basic infotainment and engine performance.
