2020 Audi Q3 vs. 2020 Acura MDX

The 2020 Audi Q3 is a flashy subcompact crossover that is as stylish as the Audi Q8. It is not disappointing to drive and its classy styling extends from the exterior down to its cabin. This hot-looking crossover is able to impress easily ever since it had a major facelift last model year.

Another well-rounded luxury vehicle that is quite appealing is the 2020 Acura MDX. It is a little nicer compared to the usual SUVs and there is a number of optional features to further elevate its credentials.

Design & Style

The Q3 looks almost the same with its predecessor. It has a huge octagonal grille, prominent character lines, and glitzy taillights at its wide rear. The cabin, on the other hand, looks spectacular and more modern with all the expensive materials used to create it. The styling is contemporary, perhaps to match the ultra-modern set of tech features.

Compared to other cars in its class, the MDX looks aged. It is handsome with its diamond-patterned grille and creased hood but the lines and other details do not look too current. The interior looks neat but it looks uninspiring. The wood accents add a little class but the composition of the design and layout is too boring.

Technology & Safety

The infotainment cluster of the Q3 is attractive and works seamlessly. Standard equipment includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen display that is powered by the MMI infotainment system. It is easy to operate mainly because of the large icons and responsive interface. There are also premium upgrades available such as the SiriusXM satellite radio and a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Among the shortcomings of the MDX is its lousy infotainment system. The functions are divided between two display screens that are both sluggish. It also tends to get confusing as to what functions are on the upper and lower displays. It also does not help that the menu structure itself is also just as confusing. Such infotainment is dangerous as it can be distracting to use while driving.

Performance

A 2.0-liter 228-hp and 258 lb/ft of torque engine powers all three trim levels of the Q3. The energetic handling and responsive steering makes every drive fun and engaging. It can also withstand and will hold its composure when driving through curves.

The MDX is confident on the road with its 290 hp V6 engine. It is adequate but it cannot uprate its competitors with the same type of engine.

The Bottom Line

Compared to the 2020 Acura MDX, the 2020 Audi Q3 has more impressive features that complement its stylish profile. The Q3 is also well-equipped on the tech front unlike the MDX that desperately needs an update.
