2020 Audi R8 vs. 2019 Nissan GT-R

The 2020 Audi R8 has been revamped to welcome new exterior updates and better power. It is the latest evolution for the car which debuted back in 2008. For this model year, more focus is given towards making it a true supercar that is dead serious at its speed.

As for the 2019 Nissan GT-R, it stays as the brand’s range-topper high-tech supercar. Its heritage dates back to the first GT-R, the Skyline, from 1969. The 2019 edition is a commemoration of the car’s 50th anniversary and it is apparent how its makers want it to be dramatically imposing. Here is a comparison against the R8 to see which supercar is truly worthy to be on top.

Design & Style

The 2020 version of the R8 is more angular up front. There is also a honeycomb grille with lateral intakes. The hood is now lowered to give it a positively menacing appeal. The cabin is designed to comfortably seat two persons. The design is conservative yet functional.

The GT-R does not have exciting design characteristics compared to the R8. There is a new grille and LED headlights to make it look current but the rest of its proportions show a classic coupe.

Technology & Safety

The new R8 is equipped with the latest Audi MMI. It is an excellent Virtual Cockpit that controls both the instrumentation functions and the infotainment system. Just like other Audis, the tech features of the R8 looks and feels futuristic. Everything can be controlled using voice commands and there are also controls that are mounted right on the steering wheel. The 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity is a standard equipment along with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Another thing that is disappointing about the GT-R is its dated infotainment system. The navigation is inaccurate and even the voice control feature is clumsy. Apple CarPlay is available but not Android Auto. Driver aids are also limited to a rearview camera and the standard parking sensors.

Performance

Under the hood of the R8 is a mighty V-10 engine for up to 532 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Speed fanatics can even bring more power with the option to have up to 602 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.

If there is anything to love about the GT-R, it is the V-6 engine that it is equipped with. Its performance quality is maximized for up to 565 hp and 467 lb-ft of torque.

The Bottom Line

If not for its engine, the 2019 GT-R would look so mediocre against the 2020 Audi R8. It does not change the fact, however, that the R8 is many miles better than the GT-R especially on the tech front.
