2022 Audi Q5 vs. 2022 Genesis GV80
The 2022 Genesis GV80 is a stunning SUV with a serene cabin, relaxing seats and considerable power. But does it have what it takes to unseat the 2022 Audi Q5, an SUV which has received acclaim for its fabulous appearance, outstanding infotainment and impeccable safety scores?
Design & Style
The Audi Q5 seats five passengers and can be purchased in a Sportback or standard body style. The Black Optic Edition in particular is gorgeous and comes with twenty inch wheels. A hybrid option is also available, and the exterior is notable for its prominent creases along the sides, with a grille in front that is heavily embossed. The cabin is covered in black, beige or gray upholstery.
The Genesis GV80 has pronounced fenders, LED banded headlights and roofline which is tapered. The cabin is covered in upmarket materials such as wood and leather which has been painstakingly stitched. Infotainment is provided via 15 inch touch displays and the suspension is adaptive, with large wheels which absorb and minimize the feeling of road bumps.
Technology & Safety
The Genesis GV80 has won awards from the IIHS and NHTSA in the past, but recently only got 4 stars for its less than perfect frontal collision protection. Additionally, its outward vision is compromised due to a roof pillar that was smartly upturned. It does however have modern features such as parking sensors, adapted cruise control, blind area monitoring and automated emergency brakes. Amenities within its cabin include a camera with surround view, climate control, powered seats and premium audio.
The Audi Q5 has captured the Top Safety Pick+ courtesy of the IIHS and unlike the Genesis didn’t get dinged for its frontal collision protection. It is equipped with all the same features, including activated lane control, adapted cruise control, emergency automated brakes and multiple airbags. Outward vision is excellent and amenities within its cabin include climate control, powered seats, a ten inch touch display and the option of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Performance
Those that purchase the Audi SQ5 will get a turbo 6, 3 liter engine that can generate 349 horsepower, with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in just 4.7 seconds. The Genesis GV80 is equipped with a turbo 4, 2.5 liter engine that can only generate 300 horsepower, and it takes six seconds to go from zero to sixty.
The Bottom Line
Safety is the greatest weakness of the Genesis GV80. Its outward vision is compromised and its frontal impact protection is less than perfect, and when combined with its inferior fuel economy the Audi Q5 is definitely the winner.
